Facts and Myths
You can only be born with dyslexia; you either have it or you don’t.
This is usually true, however there are some rare cases when a person may acquire dyslexia i.e. “acquired/traumatic dyslexia”. This happens when a person presents with dyslexia after a severe brain injury or illness.

Dyslexia cannot be diagnosed until a child starts learning to read at school.
Being exposed to reading material more often will improve symptoms.
Dyslexia is more common in boys than in girls.
